What I Eat in a Day (II) | Cafe Review

Helloooo I’m back with another what I ate in a typical day. Here my diet is completely omnivorous with no funky veganism/vegetarianism or health restrictions – but stay tuned for my post when I try going vegan for a week (could be wonderful or a disaster I guess we’ll see).

I started the day off with breakfast with a girlfriend at Lid & Jar in Chatswood. It’s a lovely cafe in a peaceful, contemporary setting with plenty of space to relax and enjoy your meal, but I do find it quite pricey (I paid $23 AUD for my breakfast).

I had a tough time choosing between what I got and their fluffy French toast with bacon drizzled in maple syrup, but in light of all I ate at Easter last weekend, I ended up going for ‘the green bowl’. This was a raw mix of kale, avocado, broccolini, asparagus, zucchini and egg, drizzled with pesto and a sprinkle of quinoa. The meal itself was lovely (but not that filling – I was hungry again a couple of hours later), but I complemented it with a black coffee which (even for a keen coffee fan like myself) tasted incredibly sharp and bitter.

Afterward, I hit the gym and did a Body Attack session, which is probably my favourite class offered by Fitness First, but it is full on and meant I was very hungry when lunch time clocked round.

Lunch was homemade and super easy – just a multigrain wrap, smeared with hummus which was topped with avocado, 2 warmed up falafels, mayo and a sprinkle of parmesan. This was very tasty and filled me up all the way to dinner, which is surprising because I’m usually snacking all throughout a typical day.

For dinner, I steamed half an eggplant and a sweet potato and had that with a fillet of salmon. I usually just do my salmon pan-fried with a drizzle of oil and salt + pepper. I finished off the day with one (definitely had two) of these m&m cupcakes my best friend and I made the other day.

And that’s what I had in the day – the calories would have come to approximately 1300 (minus the workout session – Body Attack burns 500 calories).

What I got for Christmas 2016

Hey! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, celebrating with family and friends. I walked to my family friends house halfway through the day and it was quite charming seeing how empty and quiet the streets were – everyone was inside relaxing and enjoying time together.

For Christmas I was so spoilt by family and friends, and although the presents were an awesome addition to the day, the best part was just talking and laughing with people close to me.

Excuse all the presents strewn in the background, my family has a habit of becoming messy whilst chaotically opening each gift and thanking/chatting to the people we received them from.

From my parents my main gift was given in advance, because they paid for my flights to Asia in January, as I’m holidaying with a friend and paying for the rest of the trip myself  (stay tuned as I’m thrown in the deep end travelling for the first time without family around the Phillippines, Vietnam and Thailand).

However, they were a bit naughty and still gave me a present to open on Christmas day, which was a VS Sassoon hair curler, because I’ve been loving the 80’s corkscrew curls look lately. From my extended family I was spoilt to a couple of high quality make-up items including the NARS sheer glow concealer, the NAKED 3 palette, Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder and a beauty blender.

A close friend who I grew up with knows my addiction to tea, so gave me T2 Choc Chip Chai, T2 Madagascan Vanilla Tea, some Nepalese lemongrass tea from her travels in Nepal and a Morrocan mint tea. I’ve just been loving the T2 Choc Chip Chai, it’s made with an array of spices (Black tea, cloves, star anise, ginger, cinnamon, orange blossom, gingko, flavouring, cardamon) to imitate a spicy chocolate flavour.

Other friends gave me LUSH bath bombs which I am going to treat myself to when the weather gets a bit cooler, a make-up bag from a small Sydney based boutique, a 2017 calendar made out of recycled paper and cute cupcake patty pans embellished with pink polka dots and gold lining.

As you can see I was so spoilt and I am so appreciative of all the gifts I’ve been given. I’m getting really excited for my trip to Asia and will take lots of photos and keep you updated.

Four months of Freedom

Emerald Blue for relaxation and excitement

So uni is finally over and I have a break for four months. I’m so excited to just relax and explore Sydney and finally do the Asia travel I’ve been anticipating for months.

Since I finished last Wednesday I have packed in seeing as many people as I can and doing as much exciting stuff as I can fit in around my shifts at work (9am – 5pm four days a week this Christmas season). I kicked off the end of uni celebrations by going clubbing at The Sheaf in Double Bay. Being one of Sydney’s fancier clubs, it has a very lively vibe and was a fun night out with friends after our grueling statistics exam, despite the $10.50 tequila shots I ordered (definitely hurt the budget).

Since then I have also been to a couple of restaurants with friends, my favourites being Courtyard at Coogee Beach, where I had an acai bowl and a matcha latte, and BahBQ a Brazilian restaurant in Crows Nest which offers the unique experience of a Brazilian Churrasco where you pay $59pp to have an all you can eat degustation, my favourite meals being the fire roasted meats, garlic prawns, grilled halloumi, polenta chips, crumbed banana and roasted pineapple.

I also had a shopping day with my best friend and we went to see the massive Christmas tree (3 stories high) at Queen Victoria Building and bought some Christmas presents for friends. I also bought myself two pairs of bikini bottoms from H&M for only $15, to increase my swimmer collection for when I go traveling to beachy places like the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Byron Bay in the coming months.

I’m so excited for the coming months, I’ve had a great first year at uni but I am very ready to relax with friends, travel and eat good food instead of being cramped in my room studying. Tomorrow I’m off for breakfast at a Middle Eastern restaurant called Kepos Street Kitchen, and I’m tossing up between ‘Dad’s favourite brekky – falafel, hummus, labneh, soft boiled egg, tomato salad, schiacciata bread’ or the ‘Avocado toast, coriander seeds, crispy kale, poached eggs’. Then, for dinner I’m meeting up with a childhood friend for one of our favourite chill nights at the Green Gourmet which is a vegan restaurant that does fake ‘meat’ and I always order the ‘Lo Han Tsai 十八羅漢齋煲 -Bean curd stick, baby sweet corn, carrot, tiger lily buds, wood ear, red date, bean vermicelli & fresh vegetables, stir fried with a delightful blend of Hoi Sin & soy sauce’.
